We Are All Brave

What does it mean to be brave?

Sometimes you may have a hard time connecting your life to the word brave.

You don't believe that you share your bravery daily. You might even feel as if you don't take enough risks to be brave.

We are all brave.

Today I will break down the definition of bravery and explain how you can work towards connecting your actions to your feelings. Breaking down the term and teaching you simple and easy skills to promote awareness will help guide you in being to the present moment.

Ready, set, go!

The definition of bravery shared from Webster Online Dictionary is " The quality or state of having or showing mental or moral strength to face danger, fear, or difficulty."

Taking the definition and breaking it into simplified terms, bravery equates to the following: courage, ability to face challenges regardless of fear, confronting situations, and facing painful, difficult, or challenging and dangerous situations.

Being brave begins with surviving the year 2020. I like to compare this year and all its pain, suffering, and death to a dumpster fire. The one thing that unites us is the normalcy of chaos and confusion that it shares. The dumpster fire continues to burn freely in the areas of uncertainty, and increased stress responses, millions of people filling for unemployment, homelessness, isolation from family and friends, mental health issues, comprehensive distance learning, and a national pandemic to name a few.

We are all brave.

During your mindfulness practice, focus on adding in times where you can practice using positive affirmations before a stressful situation arises. For example, before your public speaking event, remind yourself that it will be okay regardless of the errors made during your presentation.

Apply positive affirmations such as " I am strong in communication and can face obstacles and fear with grace."

Be in control and remind your inner critic that you are indeed the boss in charge. With practice, you will silence your negative thoughts while improving your self-esteem and or confidence.

Remember, we are all brave.
