What's Your Why

Over a decade ago, life threw me a curveball. One that left me in a position where I had the opportunity to redesign my life from nearly nothing. Just a small U-Haul filled with minimal items along with my three kids and dog. I had no job, but I had always dreamed of graduating from college and becoming a teacher. So I did just that. Once we settled into my tiny 750 square foot apartment, I went back to school. I blazed my way through undergraduate and graduate school while working and attempting to manage my three kids.

I became a special education teacher specializing in teaching students impacted with autism. Serving others is my purpose and passion in this life. My three children were my “Why”.

I was determined, focused, and had a personal declaration to redesign the life I had been living since I was 17 years old.

A life that was built on a foundation of toxicity and uncertainty. I can share that it felt like I was on a roller coaster often not knowing if my harness was going to be secure enough to survive the steep climbs, falls, loops, and speed.

So let me ask you this today: "What is your why?"

"What would you like to learn more about and change about your life?"

Have you ever asked yourself these questions?

If not you can do so now.

However, thinking about redesigning your life can be both overwhelming and frightening at the same time.

Your internal dialogue might be resistant to adding more flames to your uncertain thoughts.

Remember that your mind likes to play tricks on you

Fear is also a big fat liar.

Pushing through that internal dialogue and understanding that you are in control of rewriting your narrative and redesigning your life into one where you can continue to learn and grow is essential.

I truly believe your strength is rooted in your mindset.

Your growing mindset is key to unlocking your future.

I know this all too well. It seems like yesterday.

I completely understand.

My why is my kids and my purpose is to serve and help others.

Writing has also been a passion and an area of personal interest. This blog serves two purposes for me. One- helping by serving others and two-the opportunity to start writing again. I have a goal one day to write a book.

The idea to write a self-help-memoir named “Finding Her” arose about twelve years ago, but I was drowning in both pity and unworthiness that I felt no one would want to read my story. I allowed my fear to pack my idea away because I felt that my story would not resonate with anyone. Have you ever packed something away because you were faced with fear or lack of support to take your first steps?

I feel ya, I do.

So instead of a book, I created a PODCAST.

The show allows me to share my voice along with personal stories and interviews with guests who have ideas, tips, and strategies for my community to use to help them become the best versions of themselves.

I realized later on, I was not alone in redesigning my life and dealing with mental health issues. I felt utterly alone for all those years BECAUSE NO ONE TALKS ABOUT IT.

So here I am.

Finding Her.

The title screamed out at me during a time when I wasn't confident in myself or anything for that matter. I felt alone and I was exhausted.

I just packed up my life and started over with only a tiny piece of hope tucked into my back pocket and a truckload of kids.

I wanted to change my life so badly. At the time I was drowning in my 11 year toxic relationship.

I needed to become my lifesaver.

My hero.

My knight in shining armor.

You may have a very different story than mine.

But, we do indeed share the same commonalities.

We can learn and do hard things.

We can redesign our own lives regardless of our age.

We can replace bad habits with new ones that will make us grow but will also allow us to heal.

We can learn how to ask for help.

We can take care of ourselves first.

Finally, we can talk openly about our mental health and wellness issues.
